Every now and then I read some of the work of the School of Life, the place founded, among others, by philosopher Alain de Botton.
Recently I read their post on good demand, a topic I find relevant to what we do at Sugartrends.
It is self-evident that economies are largely defined by what people want. Currently our focus is very much on the quantity of demand. Very little attention is devoted to its quality.
The combined purchasing choices of millions of people shapes the kind of society we live in, so we should more often draw attention to the fact there are better and worse purchasing decisions and have more discussions about what these might be.
Good demand could be shortly defined as consumption that leads to a better life in the long term. A clear example is demand for healthy food is better than demand for junk food.
We should set higher expectations to our demand and go for genuinely beneficial products.

The post would not be complete with a true tip of good consumption. See the completely biodegradable and vegetable-based soap that is ecologically formulated and gentle enough for washing body, face and hair but also for tasks like dishwashing, mopping, laundry and even pest control! Have a look at this blog post telling what the right dilutions to be used are. You will be as amazed as I was, I believe. I will order my first one now 🙂
