Shopping in Budapest, Hungary

As everyone of the SugarTrends team likes travelling, in this post we have decided to present a city from our Sugartrends map: Budapest. The reason we chose this is because Budapest is a city worth being mentioned, a place with a lot of history.

Travelers are quickly recognizing the appeal of Budapest, with tourism accounting for approximately 2.7 million visitors per year”. Hungarians are very proud of their beautiful capital, which is divided in two parts with two different flavors, Buda (West) and Pest (East). Once you are in the city, you can easily notice the Viennese and Parisian influences that had an impact on the architectural design of the buildings.

No matter in which season you come, there is always something to do or see from festivals (Budapest Spring Festival or Autumn Festival), design markets (WAMP) to more than 100 museums (various exhibitions from fine arts, contemporary arts, science, history or gastronomy).

Should you need another reason to visit, Budapest is a paradise for shoppers with something to suit every taste and every wish. Hungarians are famous and seen as very talented people when it comes to creativity and design. As Robert Capa, a well-known war photographer, said “It is not enough to be talented, you have to be Hungarian“. And in order to give you a quick flavor of the Hungarian culture, we have decided to present you a few local shops from Budapest, which also can be found on Sugartrends.

We are glad to have these shops and, at the same time, be able to help people experience different cultures from around the world through our website. We believe in the saying “the more languages you speak, the more of a person you are” which in our case can be translated into: “the more countries and shops we have, the more diverse our collection of shops would be”.

Liko is the first Hungarian shop that joined us, offering “fresh, modern and luxurious” jewelry. The owner of the store, Lili Koós, spent most of her childhood in her family’s goldsmith workshop, playing with precious stones and metal pearls. For the past 5 years, Lili studied and worked in cities like London, Milan or Sydney and her motto is to create “affordable yet luxury pieces for everyone who appreciates fine jewelry“. You can see here store on here.

The Vadjutka Design Jewelry Studio, founded in 2002, is our second store from Hungary and it is located in the very heart of Budapest, at Astoria metro station, in a beautiful historic building. The Studio is part of the Paloma Creative Project, which is a creative project with the aim of giving new life to abandoned houses in Budapest.

She believes that, “every piece of jewelry has its own personality – just as humans do” and one every piece will find its perfect owner. Check out her work  here.

The next stop is Captain’s, a store owned by Kristof Boegi and Oliver Kakstedter, which sells something really cool: wooden iPhone cases. Yes, that’s right! They look elegant, natural and they suit your iPhone unbelievably well. The idea started in 2013 when Kristof and Oliver decided to do something creative, and after weeks of brainstorming they came up with the idea of designing a cover made of wood.

So, if you’re looking for a special gift for one of your friends or just want to have a cool iPhone, Captain’s is your place.

In case you feel more adventurous and would like to go outside Budapest or visit any other places, we definitely recommend Sopron, a town situated next to the western borders of Hungary at the foot of the Alps. Here, you can also find one of our stores, Peter Kiss Jewelrymanufacture. The store was found in 1991 and it is located on 6, Goldsimth Street, 9400. The owner of the store, Peter Kiss, has been doing handmade jewelry over two decades. He creates marvelous jewelry made of gold and silver, using sparkling precious stones and pearls like Tahiti and others. You can also find his products on our website.
